​Selwyn Richards is the clinical lead of spinal pain services at Poole NHS Foundation Hospital Trust and the lead for the Dorset NHS CFS/ME service based in Wareham Hospital.  

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London and on the GMC specialist register. He has the UK Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine (RCSEdin) and a distinction in his MSc in Rheumatology(Kings).

His specialist interests include early diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory arthritis, ultrasound in rheumatic disorders, sport and exercise medicine, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and spinal problems.

He is an keen researcher with a wide range of peer review papers and numerous abstracts and presentations.

Dr Richards is available for private consultation at the Harbour Hospital  in Poole.  

Training

​After starting studying medicine at Cambridge University where he was a scholar, he completed his clinical training at Oxford University and did a professorial house job in Oxford for Professor Peter Sleight.

He completed his general professional training  at Nottingham General Hospital finishing his time working for Professor Michael Doherty. 

He undertook his specialist rheumatology training under Professor David Scott at Kings College Hospital in London.

He completed an NHS research training fellowship looking at the benefit of exercise in fibromyalgia. The results of his trial were published in the British Medical Journal.

Since 2001 he has been a consultant rheumatologist at Poole. He continues to take an active role in research and service development striving to provide high quality efficient services for the NHS.
